What the… people have wondered why seren-d-pity (serendipity), where did I get the idea from… plain and simple. For the longest time, actually, ever since we had internet access at home (1996), my nickname was jmizetag, that’s why I keep the domain. My dad suggested that I didn’t use my own name as a nickname and so I made up that word jmizetag to use as a nickname on AIM, etc. But oh God, jmizetag is so hard to pronounce! Even Germans can’t pronounce this! lol.

So, I started thinking about other names… and I like weird nouns, weird but nice sounding at the same time. Well, during my first (or maybe second?) year in college my girlfriends and I decided to go downtown San Sebastian to eat lunch one day. It takes about 25 minutes to walk from our campus to downtown city and after eating lunch we realized a new movie had just been released. It was called Serendipity and it was chilly outside, so we went inside the theatre to watch the movie. I loved it. I love John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale so it was hard not to like the movie. I loved the word, I kept repeating it over and over again after I left the theatre.

And so, what’s serendipity anyway? it’s a word that refers to those ‘fortunate discoveries’ we make. The word was formed after a scientist whose last name was Serendip found out several things by coincidence. I liked the story, I loved the word and the meaning behind it. And it became my nickname ever since that day. There’s a cafeteria in New York City called Serendipity 3. It appears in the movie too. I’ve never been there, but as far as I know, it’s a really popular spot in the city and you usually have to make a reservation way ahead the day you want to go there to have a milkshake. Maybe someday I’ll go. So that’s the story behind the name…
